NMMU Students Counselling Centre SoftwareThe NMMU’s student counseling centre has developed two software systems that have been successfully licensed to a number of institutions:
Ukubambais a comprehensive software system streamlining counselling statistics management. It is an easy-to-use system that enables counselling centers to capture and report on multiple data sources and provide general reports or reports on specific interventions. It allows needs assessments, process evaluation and provides research data.
The Learning Enhancement Checklist (LEC) is a counselling initiative for individual and group-based assessment and intervention services. The LEC can be used remedially as well as developmentally and culminates in a personalized success plan for each student.
NMMU Maths and Science Teaching ProgrammeThe NMMU’s Govan Mbeki Maths Development Unit created a DVD series covering the entire South Africa Maths syllabus for Grade 12. This was used in incubator schools as well as for training student teachers. It was subsequently expanded to include Grade 10 and 11 Maths as well as Science for Grade 11 and 12. This intellectual property is now being commercialized by being included on a locally-produced tablet which will be available at selected retailers nationwide.
NMMU Student Card Access Control SystemThe Card Printing System takes a photo, draws relevant information from an Information Technology System, print an individualized student/staff card and registers the card with the access control system in one process. This efficient system has reduced the waiting times in queues at registration tremendously and has improved the accuracy of access control integration to a point where the only bugs now seem to be user finger trouble. The system us in the process of being rolled out to eight FET Colleges in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces.
