The project involves the design, development and manufacture of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for use in a variety of industrial applications. AGVs are a type of mobile robot that follow predefined routes, typically following markers or tape on the floor. AGVs are typically used in material handling and transport applications in industrial environments, particularly in manufacturing facilities and warehouses. In particular, the AGVs being developed are low-cost AGVs (also known as Automated Guided Carts or AGCs) and are designed for material transport and delivery tasks with automated coupling and decoupling of loads.
Value Proposition/Benefits
AGVs are used in manufacturing and warehousing facilities as a means of automating material transport, thereby improving efficiencies and reducing costs. AGVs will typically tow material behind them (with automated coupling), but can also be semi-permanently attached to trolleys or include additional features (such as motorised rollers for automated loading and unloading of racks). As such, AGVs are used to replace manual or driver-operated material handling and delivery tasks.
